Basking in the Light

As I was driving to a school to give a Choose to Wait presentation I prayed over the teens that I’d be seeing.  From past experience the school I would be visiting that day had become known to me as one full of tough teens which resulted in usually poor feedback: all the more reason to go! I determined to spend my entire drive in prayer that God would open the eyes of the hearts of these teens and that seeds of truth would fall on fertile soil.

In spite of the fact that it was one of those very gray days I recalled the scripture (Matthew 5:14) where Christ says we are the light of the world.  That is exactly the reality of what Choose to Wait is all about; shedding light in a dark world and on a topic that not too many people of light want to discuss. I can’t imagine how we Christians have come to allow such a beautiful gift from God become so distorted that many feel our sexuality is a topic to be discussed in hush-hush tones, if at all.

Have you ever been in a dark or dimly lit room for a time and then stepped into the brilliant sunshine? Had you been in the darkness long enough the brightness of the light is annoying at best or perhaps even intolerable and blinding. I imagine that this is what many teens experience who have never been exposed to this kind of brilliance on such a topic as their value and worth. Our program walks into their lives shining blinding brightness and truth on a topic our culture has reserved for dark places.  Some squint, some shade their eyes because the light in incomprehensible, but slowly and surely we get to witness the majority of their eyes adjust. Anonymous feedback clearly indicates they’ve enjoyed a good bask in the Son!

Remembering Roe

On the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we honor the lives of those who have died as a result of abortion and we mourn with the families who grieve their absence. We also celebrate the children and families who have been spared from abortion and whose lives have enriched our communities.

About 55 million abortions have occurred in the United States since abortion was legalized in 1973.  Centers for Disease Control data indicates that the total number of abortions and the abortion rate (number of abortions per 1,000 women of childbearing age) decreased 5% in 2009 (verses 2008 numbers).  Guttmacher Institute data also shows the rate of abortion in the United States has declined 33% from a peak of 29 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 in 1980 to 19.6 per 1,000 in 2008.  2009 data is not yet available from Guttmacher.

Compassionate life affirming support for women and men facing unplanned pregnancy, provided at the Pregnancy Care Centers of South Central Indiana, and centers across the country, is part of the solution to abortion. Members of our community have united to make sure that no woman feels forced to choose between her baby and her future goals. At the Pregnancy Care Center, we are part of building a supportive community in south central Indiana that empowers every woman to welcome her child into the world and create her own success story.

In 2012, our six centers served 6,358 client visits including 903 men.  We helped 2,452 families with material assistance and offered 826 women the opportunity to see their baby through ultrasound.  All while focusing on our mission to compassionately engage, educate and inspire our communities with the truth regarding sexual integrity and the value of human life.

Join us as we remember and partner with us as we continue the fight.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is right around the corner.  On Sunday, January 20th join pregnancy centers around the nation in celebrating the value of human life and the work being done to impact the local community with the truth regarding sexual integrity and the sanctity of life.

Sanctity of Human Life is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decision, which was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973.  This special day of honor was started by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Each year to commemorate SOHLS the Pregnancy Care Center offers churches a free brochure to help celebrate the immeasurable value of life. Contact Abby Glasser if you would like to receive this insert.   A short video is also available at the follow link to share with your congregation http://vimeo.com/53335057.

Change of Heart, Saves a Life!

We had an amazing experience at Jackson County during our ultrasound day recently.  Another one of our centers sent a client to us who was very abortion minded since we would be able to see her before their next ultrasound day. She showed up, but appeared somewhat unresponsive during the ultrasound. The peer counselor discussed her options with her, prayed with her, & encouraged her to call or come back if she had any further  questions.  About an hour later the client walked through our door & asked to speak with the counselor about adoption!  To put it in her words, this is how she described it..."I left the center and drove to Columbus to the place where I was planning to get the abortion.  When I got to the bank, I turned around & drove back here to talk about adoption!"  What a beautiful picture of God working!  The client watched a dvd that day on her options and before it was over she had asked the counselor to call the  Adoption Support Center so she could speak with someone!  We have been in contact with her several times since then and she is deciding between adoption and parenting.

How amazing to be part of such a wonderful work!
